The Palm Beach County Department of Environmental Resources Management (ERM) has added another volunteer event to its April schedule. This project is designed for volunteers ages 16 and older. Volunteers 15 and under must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
VOLUNTEER EVENT (WEEKDAY EVENT)
What: Removing trash from mechanically chopped habitat restoration area
Where: Lake Park Scrub Natural Area – Lake Park

When: Thursday, April 26
Time: 9 a.m. to noon
Directions: From I-95 exit at Northlake Blvd. Go east on Northlake Blvd. to Old Dixie Hwy. Turn right and head south on Old Dixie Hwy. for roughly one mile. Turn right at Industrial Ave. (look for a white county truck parked at the corner of Industrial Ave. and Old Dixie Hwy. to locate entrance to natural area). Parking area is along the side of a dirt road leading to natural area gate.
Volunteers should wear long pants, T-shirts, boots or sneakers. Restroom facilities are not available at this site. We will be working in brush-filled areas, so volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes. ERM will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments.
Event participation is limited to the first 15 volunteers who register.

What: Trash Removal along Intracoastal Waterway and U.S. Highway 1
Where: Jupiter Ridge Natural Area – 1800 S. U.S. Highway 1 - Jupiter

When: Saturday, April 28
Time: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Volunteers must arrive by 8 a.m. We will be leaving the parking lot by county vehicles no later than 8:15 to travel to the cleanup site. Volunteers arriving late will not be able to help with the project.
Directions: From I-95 exit at Donald Ross Road. Go east on Donald Ross Road to U.S. Highway 1. Turn left and head north on U.S. Highway 1 for roughly 2.5 miles. The entrance to the natural area is located on the west side of U.S. Highway 1 just north of the Bluffs development.
Volunteers should be prepared to get wet and muddy as part of the cleanup will occur along the Intracoastal Waterway. Volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes that they don’t mind getting dirty. No sandals allowed. Please wear either sneakers or hiking boots. Be prepared for mosquitoes. Restroom facilities are available on site (Port-a-let). ERM will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments for the volunteers. Event participation is limited to the first 24 volunteers who register.
