Commissioner Kanjian Addresses The Smart Growth Partnership Meeting
May 13, 2008 Commissioner Bob Kanjian recently addressed the luncheon meeting of the Smart Growth Partnership: A Southeast Florida Initiative. He spoke briefly about the establishment of the County's Going Green Task Force and his role as the chairman. He invited all attendees to join with him in participating on the Task Force. He noted, "We have the opportunity now to move forward with Smart Growth communities to build the tax base and sustain the environment." The luncheon's keynote speaker was Lee Sobel, a redevelopment specialist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, who made a presentation on redevelopment opportunities with existing retail shopping centers, key corridors of growth as well as greyfield and suburban redevelopment. The Smart Growth Partnerships mission is to provide education, awareness and critical tools for the public and private sectors to work together to address solutions for green redevelopments of mixed- use projects and town centers. The meeting took place in West Palm Beach and Jeff Kune, a principal with Beacon Rock Real Estate, served as the master of ceremonies. # # #
