Message from Commissioner Aaronson

May 6, 2009

Our winter season has come to a close.  No matter where you will be in the coming months, Sheila, my staff and I wish all of you a safe, healthy and happy summer.

The Veterans Coalition of South Florida will present their annual Memorial Day Program beginning at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 25th at Veterans’ Park located on West Palmetto Park Rd. in West Boca.  This event honors veterans of our armed services and will feature a procession of colors, guest speakers and patriotic music.  I invite all of you to join with me to salute our veterans and show them how much we appreciate all they have done to protect and defend our country.

The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is offering a summer pass for $25.00.  The pass entitles visitors to free admission to the Morikami from May through September, free admission to the Bon Festival and 10% off at the Cornell Café and museum store.  The pass can be purchased at the museum or online at www.morikami.org.  For more information, call 561-495-0233, ext. 290.

The Canyon Town Center Amphitheater Grand Opening is scheduled for Sunday, May 17th at noon.  The Fabulons will be performing for your enjoyment.  An exhibition soccer game will be held on the new field.  Bring your blanket or lawn chair and experience West Boynton’s newest recreational facility.  In addition to the amphitheater, there are restroom facilities and athletic fields.  Future events include concerts, karaoke, classic car shows and a Fall Festival.  The Amphitheater is located in the Canyon Town Center.  From the Turnpike, exit at Boynton Beach Blvd.  The Canyon Town Center is about ½ mile west on the south side of Boynton Beach Blvd. between Sunset Palms Elementary School and Lyons Rd.  The amphitheater is at the back of the property.

Sunset Cove Amphitheater at South County Regional Park has a number of summer events scheduled over the coming months:

  • On June 20th, the Snook and Surfrider Foundations will present the “Surfin Snook Summer Jam”, a family friendly fundraiser.  From 3:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., you can enjoy fishing demonstrations, vendors and nonstop entertainment.
  • Our 2nd Annual July 4th Celebration will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.  The whole family can enjoy dancing and singing to all your favorite hits performed by the “CK Band”, an 8-piece dance band.  Fireworks set to music take center stage at 9:00 p.m.  Admission is free and picnic baskets are allowed.
  • Morgan Renee Entertainment will present “Disney’s High School Musical” on July 10th at 8:00pm.  Tickets are on sale at www.ticketmaster.com.  For additional information on these events, call 561-488-7414.

As always, I invite your comments on any issue of interest to you.  As your Commissioner, I am here to help you.  You may write me at 301 N. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach, 33401 or call my staff at 276-1310 or toll free at 877-930-2205.  You can also email me at baaronso@pbcgov.org.
