Palm Beach County conducted a point-in-time homeless count to determine the number of homeless individuals and families residing in Palm Beach County on the night of Jan. 28, 2009. The survey resulted in a total of 2,147 homeless individuals including 138 families. It reflects an increase of nearly 22 percent in the number of homeless in the county since 2007 when the total was 1,766.
On Sept. 23, 2008, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners adopted a ten-year plan to end homelessness. Results of the biennial counts provide vital information used in obtaining funding to support programs for the homeless in our county.
