The Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) presented Palm Tran with the 2006 "Urban Community Transportation System of the Year" award at the CTAA's annual dinner on June 6. This award is given each year to a transit system for its innovative and creative service to the community along with its responsiveness to customers and the needs of the community.

Palm Tran was chosen over thousands of other transportation systems across the nation for its outstanding efforts in serving the public. Previous winners of this award include the transit authority of Louisville, Kentucky in 2005, and Orange County Transit of Orange County, California in 2004.

This award applauds the service provided by Palm Tran through its fixed-route system and its paratransit operation, Palm Tran CONNECTION. The CTAA highlighted the many programs Palm Tran offers to the community, the improvement and growth in these programs, the hard work of the Palm Tran Service Board, the strong relationship Palm Tran has with developed its customers, and the continued efforts of Palm Tran's staff to improve service. Specifically, this award recognizes freedom of mobility that Palm Tran CONNECTION provides to seniors and disabled residents.

The CTAA was founded 20 years ago to represent small city and rural transit systems across America. With the advent of ADA legislation, the CTAA became a focal point for paratransit systems and improved mobility management.
