ERM Volunteer Opportunities in June

The Palm Beach County Department of Environmental Resources Management (ERM) has three weekday volunteer events and two weekend volunteer events planned during the month of June. Additional projects may be added at a later date. These projects are designed for volunteers ages 16 and older. Volunteers 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

VOLUNTEER EVENT (WEEKDAY EVENT)
What: Trash removal  
Where: Limestone Creek Natural Area – 6570 Church St. – Jupiter

When: Wednesday, June 6
Time: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Directions: From I-95 exit at Indiantown Road (SR 706) – head east on Indiantown Road to Central Blvd. – turn left and head north on Central Blvd. to Church Street – turn left and head west on Church Street. The natural area is located on the south side of Church Street. The natural area borders Central Blvd. and Church Street).
Volunteers should wear old shoes and clothing for this event as we will be working in brush-filled, and possibly muddy, areas. There are no restroom facilities available at the site. Restrooms are available in various convenience stores and fast-food restaurants along Indiantown Road. ERM will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments. Due to small parking facilities, event participation is limited to the first 12 volunteers who register.

VOLUNTEER EVENT
What: Trash removal
Where: Delaware Scrub Natural Area – 47 N. Delaware Blvd. – Jupiter

When: Saturday, June 9
Time: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. 
Directions:  From I-95 exit at Indiantown Road (SR 706) - head east on Indiantown Road to Delaware Blvd. Turn left on Delaware Blvd. and park in the natural area parking lot located on the east side of Delaware Blvd.
Volunteers should wear long pants, T-shirts, sneakers or hiking boots. Volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes as we will be working in brush-filled areas. Much of the trash is buried in saw palmetto, so volunteers should be prepared for some serious “crashing and bashing” through the woods. Restroom facilities are not available at the natural area. ERM will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments.  Due to limited parking, event participation is limited to the first 15 volunteers who register.

VOLUNTEER EVENT (WEEKDAY EVENT)
What: Removing trash from mechanically chopped habitat restoration area
Where: Lake Park Scrub Natural Area – Lake Park

When: Thursday, June 21
Time: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Directions: From I-95 exit at Northlake Blvd. – head east on Northlake Blvd. to Old Dixie Hwy. – turn right and head south on Old Dixie Hwy. for roughly one mile – turn right at Industrial Ave. Look for a white county truck parked at the corner of Industrial Ave. and Old Dixie Hwy. to locate entrance to natural area. The parking area is along the side of a dirt road leading to natural area gate.
Volunteers should wear long pants, T-shirts, boots or sneakers. Restroom facilities are not available at this site. We will be working in brush-filled areas so volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes. ERM will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments. Event participation is limited to the first 12 volunteers who register.

VOLUNTEER EVENT
What: Trash removal
Where: Pondhawk Natural Area – Boca Raton

When: Saturday
Time: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Directions: From I-95 exit at Yamato Road - head west on Yamato Road to Military Trail - turn left and head south on Military Trail to Spanish River Blvd. – turn left and head east on Spanish River Blvd. for roughly ½ mile – turn left into the parking lot of the Boca Raton Spanish River Library (1501 NW Spanish River Blvd.). Look for a white county truck to locate the volunteer meeting area. This will be on the far west side of the parking lot to keep the parking spaces closer to the library entrance open for the library patrons.
Volunteers should wear long pants, T-shirts, sneakers or hiking boots. We will be moving through saw palmetto, so be prepared for some “crashing and bashing” through the woods. Restroom facilities are available inside the library. ERM will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments. Event participation is limited to the first 24 volunteers who register.

VOLUNTEER EVENT (WEEKDAY EVENT)
What: Trash and exotic plant removal
Where: High Ridge Scrub Natural Area – 7300 High Ridge Road - unincorporated Palm Beach County

When: Thursday, June 28
Time: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Directions: From I-95 exit at Hypoluxo Road - head west on Hypoluxo Road to High Ridge Road - turn left and head south on High Ridge Road for roughly a half-mile. The natural area is located on the left (east side of High Ridge Road). Volunteers should wear long pants, T-shirts, sneakers or hiking boots. Volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes as we will be working in brush-filled areas. Restroom facilities are not available at the natural area. Closest restroom facility is at a gas station located on the corner of High Ridge Road and Hypoluxo Road. ERM will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments. Event participation is limited to the first 12 volunteers who register.
