During its annual conference in June, the Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged (FCTD) recognized Palm Tran CONNECTION as the 2006 Urban Community Transportation Coordinator (CTC) of the year. This award is the commission’s highest honor.

The 2006 Transportation Disadvantaged Training Conference was held in conjunction with the Community Transportation Association of America’s annual conference in Orlando from June 5-9, 2006.

An average weekday for Palm Tran CONNECTION involves more than 3,100 scheduled passenger trips on 218 routes, 2,369 hours of service and 3,455 miles of service. With the Transportation Disadvantaged bus pass program Palm Tran CONNECTION has implemented, there has been an estimated cost savings in excess of $20 million a year, and the Medicaid bus pass program has resulted in estimated cost savings of more than $5 million per year.

Palm Tran CONNECTION has always provided the opportunity for people to gain the feeling of self worth by filling the transportation need that allows them to be a productive part of society. Palm Tran CONNECTION’s exemplary service and commitment are just part of the reason why it was chosen for this prestigious honor.
