Commissioner Burt Aaronson addressed a large audience at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the county’s newest branch library located at 14350 Hagen Ranch Road, Delray Beach.  The festive event took place on July 11 and included speeches from Commissioner Aaronson, Library Director John J. Callahan III and Library Advisory Board Chair Regis Wenham.

Musical performances were held throughout the weekend and included a harmonica performance by Hohner’s Heroes, a barbershop quartet and Latin music by Tuna de West Palm Beach. Activities for the entire family were held on Saturday and included story time, pictures with the library’s mascot Dewey the Owl, a magic show by Gary Midnight, balloon animals by Karl Koppertop and crafts and video games throughout the day.

Staff and patrons are enjoying the new larger facility which is more than double the size of the old West Atlantic Avenue Branch. The branch is located in a natural setting with scenic water views, an abundance of natural lighting and comfortable seating areas throughout the building. The library also includes more than 50 computers in the adult, teen and children’s areas for public use. Free wireless access is available throughout the building.

The building also has three meeting rooms – a large room accommodating 225 people, a smaller conference room accommodating 50 people, and a room for children’s programming with space for 50. There is space to allow the current selection of books, CDs, and DVDs of approximately 82,000 to grow to 150,000 items.

The building is one of the library projects funded by the 2002 Library Expansion Bond Referendum.
