At the August 15, 2006 Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action:
Restaurant Inspections – adopted an ordinance requiring restaurants to post notices advising customers that annual health and safety inspection reports are available upon request. Torrey Pines Institute – postponed a decision on a request for $21 million in funding to bring the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies to Boca Raton, pending contract negotiations with the institute and city officials. Post-disaster Debris Removal – adopted an ordinance authorizing the Solid Waste Authority, upon declaration of a disaster, to collect and remove debris from private gated communities and/or private roads in unincorporated areas of the county. Roads – amended the County’s five-year road program, approving six new projects; approved Commissioner Koons’ request to provide $30,000 in District 2 transportation improvement funds for the West Palm Beach Okeechobee Boulevard corridor study. Roadway Landscaping – approved the County taking over maintenance of median landscaping from homeowners associations under the Trees Only and OTIS programs. Lake Worth Beach – postponed for 60 days approval of $5 million in voter-approved recreation bond funds for the Lake Worth Municipal Beach redevelopment project to allow time for details of the plan to be worked out. Waterfront Access – authorized ad valorem tax deferrals to owners of recreational and commercial working waterfronts, if the owners are actively engaged in operation, rehab or renovation of the properties. Cross Roads Depot – per a request by South Bay city officials, approved the reallocation of $200,000 in recreation bond funds for the Cross Roads Depot project in South Bay. Bed Tax – approved on first reading a one-cent increase in the countywide hotel bed tax, effective December 1, 2006; second and final reading on September 12, 2006. Community Visioning – approved giving the City of Boynton Beach $15,000 to help fund a community visioning study with Florida Atlantic University. The process will include a two-day American Assembly session. |
