At the August 21, 2008 Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action:

Due to Tropical Storm Fay, the August 19, 2008 Board of County Commissioners meeting was canceled. While most of the agenda items were postponed to the September 9, 2008 BCC meeting, the following items were taken up by the board during the August 21 Comprehensive Plan Transmittal Public Hearing:

Winding Waters – approved an interlocal agreement with the Solid Waste Authority to supply approximately 1.4 million cubic yards of fill material from the Winding Waters Natural Area for landfill liner cover.

Palm Tran – approved a grant agreement with FDOT in the amount of $1.5 million toward the purchase of three Palm Tran hybrid buses for a limited-stop express route between West Palm Beach and Stuart.

Highland Beach – the county authorized litigation, as appropriate, to resolve a dispute over the county’s pending special exception permit application for a park in Highland Beach; and directed staff to initiate intergovernmental conflict resolution procedures during pendency of litigation.

Green Task Force – appointed the following individuals to the newly formed Green Task Force on Environmental Sustainability and Conservation: Tricia Ward Waldman, Greg Rice, Susan Haynie, Rep. Maria Sachs, Mark S. Beatty, Andrew Luchey, Robert Gottlieb, Joseph Snider, Jayne King, Cynthia Plockelman, Maureen Kussler, Bruce Loren, Richard Goodwin, P.E., J.P. DiMisa and John Banting. The task force will be chaired by Commissioner Robert Kanjian.

Proclamations – declared August 2008 as Local 2928 Firefighter Appreciation Month and Purple Ribbon Month to bring awareness to the serious issue of youngsters being accidently left alone in parked vehicles.
