A special segment on the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is scheduled to air on the “Wake Up With Al” show on the Weather Channel this Friday morning, August 17. The piece will appear in either the 6-7 a.m. or 10-11 a.m. time slot. The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is also currently featured in the “Celebrating the American Lighthouse” section of The Weather Channel’s website.
The 156-foot-high lighthouse was built in the 1850s and activated in 1860. More than 80,000 people now visit it annually. Earlier this year, a lightning strike broke the filaments in the primary and secondary lamp bulbs and damaged the main circuit breaker. But just a day later repairs had been made and the lighthouse is still in service. One of the most spectacular views anywhere in Palm Beach County is to climb the 105 steps to the top of the lighthouse. Tours of the facility, including evening moonrise tours, are offered on a regular basis. For more information please, go to www.jupiterlighthouse.org
