Palm Tran Hosting Second Travel Training Workshop September 14

Palm Tran’s second “Train the Travel Trainer” workshop will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2006 from 8:30am to 3:30pm. The workshop will take place at Palm Tran’s administrative offices, 3201 Electronics Way, West Palm Beach, Florida.

The training is being provided to high school teachers in the Palm Beach County School District who teach alternate assessment students. Teachers will be instructed by Palm Tran staff on how to teach their students to ride the bus.

The program will focus on the needs of educable and trainable special-needs students who are participating in community-based instruction and vocational education programs within the School District. Currently, there are 500 students enrolled in 28 high/alternative schools that have been identified as needing life-long pubic transportation. These students likely will never be able to drive a car. This program will contribute to their need for life skills training and facilitate their independence and mobility.

This program is made possible in part by a partnership with the School District of Palm Beach County and a “Train the Travel Trainer” grant from the Florida Department of Transportation.
