Larger-Than-Life Bronze Insects
to Arrive at PBIA (Revised)

            Thanks to local Palm Beach artist Susan P. Cochran, five very large ant sculptures will be placed on the property of Palm Beach International Airport as part of Palm Beach County’s Art in Public Places program.  The painted-bronze ant sculptures range in height from three to seven feet and up to 25 feet in length.  The largest, the queen, weighs in at a hefty 7,500 pounds.  On loan to Palm Beach County for one year, the sculpture is titled “Ant Colony.”

When:  Tues., Sept. 19, 2006, 9:30 a.m. - Four “small” ants installed
 
Why:  To offer an artistic and compelling experience for residents and
            visitors.   Loaned artworks enable the County to expand its
            presentation of public art in the absence of capital funds
            beyond existing bond allocations.
