Grand Opening of Affron Park

For Inmediate Release: September 25, 2006

Commissioner Warren Newell (District 3) and County officials will celebrate the opening of Affron Park, located at 4777 Serafica Road, in Lake Worth, on Thursday, September 28 at 6:00 p.m.

The 2.7 acre neighborhood park includes two full-court basketball courts and two age-appropriate children’s play areas featuring slides and a tire swing. The park also includes a .2 mile bike path, three family picnic tables, one covered handicap picnic table, an open grass play field, water fountain, and bicycle rack.

The property was donated to Palm Beach County in 1996 for use as a neighborhood park, in honor of the late Morris Affron. In 1953, Morris Affron retired and relocated his family from Upstate New York and eventually settled near Belvedere Road, in present day Haverhill. Although retired, Mr. Affron opened a plumbing supply store, which is still operating today on Military Trail in West Palm Beach.

Commissioner Newell noted, “We are sincerely grateful to the Affron family for making this donation and giving back to the County.”
Affron Park was developed by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and Countywide Community Revitalization Team (CCRT) in response to the surrounding community’s request for a safer place for youth to play. For more information, please call (561) 966-6600.
