The second temporary Scripps Florida Laboratory building (T2) will be dedicated on Monday, October 16 at 10 a.m. The 33,000 square foot building was completed in August, and staff should be moved in by the end of October.
A 41,000 square foot facility (T1) was completed and opened in March of 2005.
The ceremony will take place at the John D. MacArthur Campus of Florida Atlantic University in Jupiter. Expected speakers include the Chairman of the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners Tony Masilotti, District 1 Commissioner Karen Marcus, FAU President Frank T. Brogan, and Scripps Florida Vice President of Scientific Operations Dr. Harry Orf.
By the end of October, six faculty members will have relocated their groups from T1 into T2. Beginning in November, Dr. John Cleveland and his lab staff will arrive from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis to inaugurate the new Cancer Biology Department in T2. When fully occupied, T2 will house approximately 100 staff, bringing the total capacity of Scripps Florida in its temporary facilities to approximately 300.
