Commissioner McCarty Hosts Opening of Yamato Scrub Natural Area

On October 17, 2007, Commissioner McCarty hosted the opening of the Yamato Scrub Natural Area on Clint Moore Road in Boca Raton.  This 217-acre natural area can be used by local residents and visitors for environmental education, scientific research and passive recreation activities such as photography, bird watching and nature walks.  The City of Boca Raton and Palm Beach County are partners and co-landowners of the Yamato Scrub property.  After the opening ceremony, county Environmental Resources Management staff led a walking tour along the trail.

Two wetland areas are located on the site that are used by gray fox, mottled duck, killdeer and shorebirds.

The site includes three miles of trails including a paved section that is wheelchair accessible.
