Help ERM Keep Our Natural Areas Clean and Green

The following are upcoming Environmental Resources Management (ERM) volunteer opportunities at county natural areas. Volunteers can register for an event by either calling 233-2426 or emailing amathews@co.palm-beach.fl.us

Planting trees, removing trash
Where: Seacrest Scrub Natural Area, 3400 S. Seacrest Blvd., Boynton Beach
When: Wednesday, Oct. 19
Time: 9 a.m. to noon
Directions: From I-95, exit at Woolbright Road and go east to Seacrest Blvd. Turn right and head south on Seacrest Blvd. for roughly two miles. The natural area is located on the east side of Seacrest Blvd. just south of the hospital. Look for a brown sign at the parking lot entrance.
Volunteers should wear long pants, T-shirts, boots or sneakers. Restroom facilities are not available at the natural area. Restrooms are available at various businesses on Woolbright Road. The work will be in brush-filled areas, so volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes. Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided. Volunteers will be working in open areas, so be prepared for the sun and heat. Event participation is limited to the first 20 volunteers who register.

Planting native grasses around wetland area
Where: Pondhawk Natural Area, Boca Raton
When: Saturday, Oct. 22
Time: 9 a.m. to noon
Directions: From I-95, exit at Yamato Road.  Head west on Yamato Road to Military Trail. Turn left and head south on Military Trail to Spanish River Boulevard. Turn left and head east on Spanish River Boulevard for roughly one-half mile. Turn left into the parking lot of the Boca Raton Spanish River Library located at 1501 NW Spanish River Blvd. Look for a white county truck to locate the volunteer meeting area.   (This will be on the far west side of the parking lot so that the parking spaces closer to the library entrance will be open for the library patrons).
Volunteers can wear shorts or long pants, T-shirts, sneakers or hiking boots.  Volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes as the work will be in a wetland area. Be prepared for hot working conditions as the restoration area has very little shade. Restroom facilities are available inside the library. Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided. Event participation is limited to the first 30 volunteers who register.
