Palm Tran, Palm Beach County’s public transportation system continues to exceed ridership expectations. For fiscal year 2006 (October 1, 2005 through September 30, 2006), Palm Tran’s total ridership was more than 9.3 million. This represents a 12.06-percent increase over last year’s total.

Palm Tran’s success can be attributed to many factors, including increased service frequency on several routes and new buses being added to the fleet. In 2006, Palm Tran increased the number of routes offering 30-minute service frequencies, modified routes to provide better transfer connections, and restructured routes to serve new areas of interest in Riviera Beach and Palm Beach Gardens. The addition of 20 new buses allowed for the retirement of older vehicles which helped increase service reliability.

In addition to the increase in total ridership, Palm Tran has seen an increase in the number of passengers per weekday and on Sundays. The pace of growth at Palm Tran far exceeds the national average increase of three percent in fixed-route bus ridership.
