Commuters in the north-central area of Palm Beach County may need to allow extra travel time the first week of January, due to railroad repair work planned on Northlake Boulevard just west of the Beeline Highway.
A CSX railroad crossing and signal bridge are being rebuilt. The work is scheduled to be done Tuesday, January 2 though Monday, January 8, 2007. This week was chosen because school will be out and daily traffic volumes are expected to be lighter than normal.
To accommodate construction crews and equipment, traffic on portions of Northlake Boulevard and Beeline Highway will be rerouted around the work site. Three primary directional patterns will be affected. Download a diagram of the traffic flow plan.
- Northlake Boulevard eastbound – before reaching the railroad crossing, motorists will be redirected north across the Northlake Boulevard median into the southbound lane of Beeline Highway; proceed south to the Northlake/Beeline intersection.
- Northlake Boulevard westbound – approaching the Beeline intersection, turn right and go north on Beeline, merging into the left-hand lane; approximately 500 feet ahead, make a U-turn onto southbound Beeline and follow an S-curve onto westbound Northlake. Acreage/Loxahatchee motorists who use Beeline Highway should follow this same route, as they will not able to turn left from Beeline onto westbound Northlake.
- Beeline Highway southbound – detoured at PGA Boulevard to accommodate the Northlake westbound U-turn.
Note: Northbound Beeline Highway traffic will not be detoured or rerouted. However, backups are anticipated, and motorists should exercise caution as they approach the Northlake Boulevard intersection. Northbound Beeline drivers are advised to stay in the right-hand lane to allow westbound Northlake drivers to use the left-hand lane to make their U-turn.
