BCC Briefs

At the December 19, 2006 Board of County Commissioners meeting, the Board took the following action:

Graffiti Ordinance: Voted against an ordinance penalizing property owners who do not remove graffiti from their property after being cited by code enforcement. The Board did not want to penalize property owners whose property had been vandalized.

Glades Development Group: Approved the creation of the Lake Okeechobee Regional Economic alliance, a 21-member group that will promote economic development in the Glades. The group will include members of the public, business, and Palm Beach County staff.

Palm Tran: Approved special bus routes for certain days of the South Florida Fair. The Fair will provide Palm Tran with advertising and display space at the Fair in exchange for the routes.

Jupiter Lighthouse: Approved seeking the designation of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse area as a Federal Outstanding Natural Area.

Convention & Visitors Bureau: The BCC gave the Convention & Visitors Bureau 60 days to come up with an acceptable plan of reorganization or face a possible termination of their contract to provide tourism related services.

Homeowners Insurance: Approved a Resolution urging the Florida Legislature to eliminate limitations imposed on Citizens Property Insurance so the insurer can reduce rates by distributing risk throughout the state.

Artificial Reef: Agreed to transfer funds from the Vessel Registration Fee Trust Fund for a new artificial reef in the Atlantic Ocean just north of the Lake Worth Inlet. The new reef would be partially funded by the West Palm Beach Fishing Club and named the John Rybovich Endowment Reef.
