Commissioner Bob Kanjian recently visited the Stand Down House in Lake Worth which provides health care and support for homeless veterans. Established in May 2000, the Stand Down House has successfully reintegrated more than 1,200 homeless veterans into the community. The term "Stand Down" has a deep and special significance for all veterans as it refers to a combat unit being relieved of duty from the front line because that unit has served courageously and honorably in battle and it now deserves time for rest and recuperation. The term "Stand Down" is symbolic of the support the Stand Down House provides. # # #
