BCC Briefs

At the Dec. 21, 2010, Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action:

Ethics – voted not to extend the Inspector General and Commission on Ethics Implementation Advisory Committee beyond its original sunset date of Jan. 12, 2011.

Scripps/Briger – approved an off-site mitigation/preservation plan for the Scripps Florida Phase II/Briger tract. The plan includes setting aside 12.7 acres of uplands at the North County District Park site and a budget transfer of $737,000 to pay for land acquisition and improvements.

Transportation Oriented Development – approved reconveyance of a .35-acre parcel at 826 Evernia Street to the city of West Palm Beach. A portion of the former Palm Beach County Health Department building sits on the property which is located in the transportation oriented development (TOD) zone. The board also agreed to hold a workshop to discuss further implementation of the TOD plan.

Downtown Hotel – approved an application by West Palm Beach Hotel Group, LLC for $25 million in federal Recovery Zone bond funds toward construction of a Marriott Residence Inn in downtown West Palm Beach. If approved, the bonds would be payable solely from revenues derived by the company. No county funds, its taxing power, faith or credit are involved.

Tourism – received a year-end report from the Tourist Development Council on tourism revenues and marketing activities in Palm Beach County.

Federation CCRT – approved an application by Federation CCRC Development, LLC for $9 million in industrial development revenue notes. CCRC is building a nursing home and independent and assisted living units at 95th Avenue South and Baron Coleman Blvd. in unincorporated southern Palm Beach County. No county funds, its taxing power, faith or credit are involved.

Water Utilities – approved a special assessment for the extension of a potable water main for 12 property owners on 140th Avenue North and 55th Road North in The Acreage.

Advance Life Support – approved renewal of six-year emergency medical services certificates with municipal fire-rescue and public safety departments in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Greenacres, North Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Riviera Beach, Tequesta and West Palm Beach.

Retreat – agreed to hold a retreat in 2011 to discuss current and long-range issues, goals and objectives.
