Every year, “Fleet Owner” magazine salutes fleets across the country for raising the bar for innovative management. The County’s Fleet Management Division of Facilities Development & Operations (FD&O) earned the 2006 Vocational Fleet of the Year Award. The award ceremony will take place at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., March 22-24, 2007. In addition, for the fifth year in a row, the facility has recently been awarded the Blue Seal Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.
Under the leadership of FD&O and Director of Fleet Management Doug Weichman, the Fleet Management staff has made significant strides in improving efficiency, developing environmentally-friendly policies, developing staff incentives for certifications and participating in the recently developed FD&O internship program.
The County operates 150 different types of vehicles, and the division handles more than 15,000 work orders a year. Fleet Management technicians have to be prepared to repair about 4,500 vehicles including everything from golf carts to dump trucks. The County’s fleet also includes 120 hybrid vehicles consisting of sedans and mid-size SUVs.
Fleet Management staff has been striving toward establishing the most efficient operations possible. Recent initiatives have helped save money, fuel and the environment while also rewarding staff. The division even has a customer feedback system that allows users to provide input on the services provided by the division.
The initiatives, programs, cost-saving methods and improved efficiencies would not be possible without the dedicated and hard-working employees of Fleet Management. Their recognition on a national level is well deserved and confirms their status as an industry leader in the automotive field.
