At the March 13, 2007 Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action:

Mecca Farms – began the process to revert the 1,920-acre Mecca Farms site back to its rural land-use classification before it was considered for the Scripps Florida campus; discussed a proposal by EB Developers to acquire the tract through the creation of a new taxing district.

Lantana Airport – approved an RFP (request for proposals) for development of approximately 19 acres of land at the Lantana Airport.

Jupiter Gardens – approved the transfer of 5.6 acres of county-owned property east of I-95 and south of Indiantown Road to the PBC Community Land Trust to construct 27 workforce homes; eligible buyers would be families earning 80 percent or less of the countywide median household income.

Broward Annexation – reiterated support for pending legislation that would allow 1,949 acres in South County, the so-called Lox Road Triangle, to be conveyed to Broward County. The board remains opposed to the proposed extensions of University and Riverside drives from Broward into Palm Beach County.

Water Utilities – approved water and sewer rate increases of an average of 18 percent for PBC Water Utilities customers, effective April 1. It is the first time utility rates have been raised in nearly a decade.

Sheriff – approved a two-year lease agreement with Tallman LLC in the amount of $96,000 per year for the Sheriff’s Office to use space at the Murphy’s Towing complex for overflow impound parking and storage of forfeited property; postponed discussion of the sheriff’s request for a mid-year budget increase.

Budget Advisory Committee – discussed the role of the newly formed advisory panel. The committee will focus on four general areas: the budget process, operating budgets, capital budgets and overall County performance measures. The committee was also directed to develop recommendations on what to do with extra property tax revenue in years when real estate sales and property values are up.

Disclosure forms – approved amending commissioner disclosure forms to include identifying family members’ employers, as well as property/land they own.
