Artist Mark Fuller Presents His Proposal to the Public

On Tuesday, April 10, 2007, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., the public is invited to meet West Palm Beach Artist Mark Fuller and give input to his proposed design to transform the highly visible west and south facing facades of the South County Civic Center along Jog Road into eye-catching and colorful “Welcome Walls.”

This “Community Public Art Input Session” will be held at the South County Civic Center located at 16700 Jog Road in Delray Beach. The event is sponsored by Palm Beach County’s Art in Public Places program and Palm Beach County’s Public Art Committee that selected Mr. Fuller as the finalist for the project.

Fuller’s presentation to the public will highlight his proposal for an ever-changing spectral wash of colors and shadows across the building’s facades. Primarily controlled by the sun’s position in the sky, the spectacular “light show” continually delights the passersby with its shifting appearance, dawn to dusk.

At dusk, Mr. Fuller’s proposed wall mounted “sconces,” with solar powered L.E.D lights, will illuminate the building’s facades for a dramatic effect. The proposal also compliments the diagonal grid of the building through the addition of dimensional hemispheres.

After Mr. Fuller presents his proposed design to the public, Art in Public Places Administrator Elayna Toby Singer will facilitate an informal discussion with the public about the proposed design. Suggestions will be incorporated into Mr. Fuller’s design.

“Public art is as much about engaging people in the process of making art as it is about the completed art itself,” encourages Ms. Singer. “We hope the community takes advantage of this opportunity to creatively work together and artistically influence their environment.
