County Engineer George Webb Installed as NACE President

At the 2007 National Association of County Engineers’ (NACE) Annual Management and Technical Conference, held in Milwaukee, Wis. in April, Palm Beach County Engineer George T. Webb, P.E. was installed as president.

A total of 383 delegates and speakers, 98 guests, and 270 exhibitor representatives attended the conference. Highlights of the opening ceremonies included remarks from the National Association of Counties President Colleen Landkamer, Vice Chair and County Commissioner of Blue Earth County, Minn. and remarks at the Legislative General Session from Frank Busalacchi, Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, John Horsley, Executive Director of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and Bob Fogel, Senior Legislative Director of the National Association of Counties.

Webb has worked for Palm Beach County since 1981, starting as the Assistant Director of the Traffic Division and holding various other top management positions before becoming County Engineer in 1991. Webb is a graduate of the University of Florida with a bachelor of science in Civil Engineering and a master of science in Engineering (1976). He is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Florida.

As County Engineer, Webb is responsible for administering the County’s current five-year road program. More detailed areas of responsibility include roadway design and property acquisition, construction coordination, surveying, engineering services and contracting, and road and bridge maintenance and construction. Webb has been a member of NACE since 1992 and is also a member and past-president of the Florida Association of County Engineers and Road Superintendents (FACERS). Webb and his wife, June Upchurch, have a son, Jordan, 17.

The National Association of County Engineers, with approximately 1,900 members in 50 states and Ontario Canada, has a four-fold objective: (1) to advance county engineering and management by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and information,  (2) to foster and stimulate the growth of individual state organizations of county engineers, (3) to improve relations and the spirit of cooperation among county engineers and other agencies in the solution of mutual problems and (4) To monitor national legislation affecting county transportation and public works departments and through the National Association of Counties, provide NACE legislative opinions.
