Highridge Family Center Offers New Program for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

For Immediate Release: August 9, 2007
Contact: Dr. Twila Taylor, 561-625-2540

Does your child struggle with controlling his/her impulses, being organized, staying focused, paying attention and/or maintaining positive behavior?

Highridge Family Center is now accepting children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) who are on medication for this condition.  The only additional admission requirement is that your child be closely monitored on a regular basis by the prescribing physician.

FREE help is available for kids with ADHD or who are having problems at home, school or with their friends. Highridge Family Center, part of the Palm Beach County Public Safety Department’s Youth Affairs Division, is a residential facility for “at-risk” youth between 11 and 15 years old.  The center works with county families for up to three months and focuses on behavioral and emotional issues that our youth struggle with in today’s society.   The children attend a Palm Beach County alternative school on the property, participate in therapeutic programming and go home each weekend to practice their newly learned skills.  The facility is conveniently located just east of I-95 at the corner of 45th Street and Australian Avenue in West Palm Beach.

Highridge Family Center has three boys dorms and three girls dorms located on opposite ends of the facility.  Each dorm houses 12 children.  The center employs dorm counselors who have bachelor’s degrees and experience working with children and teens.  Therapy includes group, individual and family therapy and is provided by licensed master’s-level therapists.  The program utilizes a motivational system that rewards and encourages positive behaviors while decreasing negative behaviors.

The mission and philosophy of Highridge Family Center is prevention.  The goal is to help children and families before problems lead to:  running away from home;  failing numerous classes and/or grade levels; becoming totally disinterested in school or dropping out of school; fighting; joining a gang; using drugs and alcohol and having unprotected sex.  All of these “at risk” behaviors lead children to the juvenile or criminal justice system where once a child goes in, they don’t get out.

Don’t let your kids go too far down the wrong path without getting them the help they need.  Other than a nominal activity fee, it doesn’t cost anything but your time. For more information or an appointment, please call 561-625-2540.
