Palm Tran Introduces New Fare Box System

Palm Tran, Palm Beach County’s public transportation system, will be implementing an upgraded fare collection system starting September 10, 2007. The new fare box will present an easier, faster and more passenger-friendly boarding experience.
There are several new features associated with the new fare box:
- The operator will issue a Fare Card for overpayments in excess of $1 that can be used for future rides on Palm Tran. Just insert the card into the Fare Card slot. The fare box will automatically deduct the fare, print the remaining balance, and return the card to you.
- The new fare box will accept U.S. coins in 1¢, 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, 50¢ and $1 denominations, as well as $1, $5, $10 and $20 bills.
- A new digital display screen allows you to view messages regarding your fare.
- Rejected coins and tokens are returned through a new coin return cup.
