MESSAGE FROM COMMISSIONER BURT AARONSON

Sheila, my staff and I would like to take this opportunity to wish our Jewish constituents a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Construction has started at the site of the new 20,000 square foot Palm Beach County Library on State Road 7 in West Boca. I have been advised that clearing and grading will be ongoing for the next few months followed by the building construction. Many residents have waited a long time for this library and I certainly look forward to joining you at the grand opening next summer.

We will also gather next summer for the grand opening of Fire Station No. 44. The contract was approved by the County Commission at its August 21st meeting. The new 5,500 square foot Fire Rescue facility will be located on Flavor Pict Road between Hagen Ranch Road and Jog Road. This new station will help to improve response times for residents in the West Boynton and West Delray areas.

Residents will soon have a new county-operated park to enjoy here in District 5. I have been working with Representative Richard Machek since 2000 to bring a park to the West Delray area. In November 2005, the County Commission approved a seven-year lease with the South Florida Water Management District for 313 acres of land on US 441 just north of Atlantic Ave. The passive park’s primary use will be to take advantage of its significant recreational potential. There will be boating, hiking and biking trails around a wooded preserve, and picnic and camping areas. The park also features a grassy runway for remote-controlled boats and cars and an archery area. A grand opening is being planned for sometime next month.

I am pleased to announce that this new park will be called The West Delray Regional Park. In addition, there will be a sign erected that acknowledges our three civic organizations, The Alliance of Delray Residential Associations, The Coalition of Boynton West Residential Associations, and The West Boca Community Council. These umbrella organizations represent nearly all of the residents in District 5 and they are being recognized for their support and efforts to bring new recreational opportunities for the residents and visitors of Palm Beach County.

In closing, I would like to comment on these outstanding organizations. The Alliance, COBWRA and the West Boca Community Council work as individual civic organizations and together as the South County Community Partnership to raise awareness of the issues that affect all of us. I have worked with all three organizations since I became a county commissioner and I can assure you that these are three very dedicated groups who have worked hard for many years to make sure our quality of life is the best that it can be. Several years ago, the County Commission issued a proclamation naming these organizations "Honorary Municipalities of District 5, Palm Beach County." I am proud that we have worked together to create a district that has outstanding fire rescue stations, excellent libraries and beautiful parks.
