BCC Briefs

At the October 2, 2007 Board of County Commissioners meeting, the following action was taken:

Caron Foundation – denied a request authorizing the issuance of up to $9.5 million in tax-exempt revenue bonds to expand the nonprofit Caron Foundation’s substance abuse treatment facilities in South County.

Emergency Transportation – approved an agreement with the Palm Beach County School Board for the use of school buses in the event of a major disaster or emergency.

Gender Identity – directed administrators to amend the Equal Employment Ordinance and the Fair Housing Ordinance to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity and expression.

Water Utilities – extended an agreement through 2013 to sell bulk potable water to the City of Boynton Beach.

Workforce Housing – agreed to donate 6.64 acres of County-owned land in Kennedy Estates (unincorporated Jupiter) to Habitat For Humanity for construction of 27 single-family homes to be sold to families earning no more than 80 percent of the median household income in Palm Beach County; approved an agreement with NOAH Development Corp. to provide $350,000 in federal HOME funds for construction of eight single-family homes in Belle Glade to be purchased by eligible first-time home buyers.

Airports – approved a series of rent increases, spread over five years, for hangar facilities at North County Aviation Airport.

Economic Development – approved the transfer of a senior planner position from Planning, Zoning & Building to the Office of Economic Development.
