In April 2002, the Palm Beach County Commission agreed to spend tax dollars in an attempt to save what has become known as the 1916 Courthouse. Many changes have been made to the original building but enough of it survived to make it a worthwhile project to restore it to its former grandeur.
The County has been cleared to occupy the building, and will soon begin the process of moving County offices. County employees from the Public Affairs Department and the County Attorney Litigation Department will relocate to the Courthouse in December. The Historical Society will also begin installing exhibits at this time, and the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum should be completed early in 2008. An opening ceremony is scheduled for March 15, 2008.
Representatives from the County, Hedrick Brothers Construction, REG Architects and the Palm Beach County Historical Society will be on hand for questions. Contact Public Affairs to reserve a spot on the tour, as space may be limited.
