James S. Barr Named New Chairman
Palm Beach County’s Criminal Justice Commission recently elected its 2008 officers to further its mission of building strong partnerships to improve the criminal justice system in the county.
Established in 1998, the commission was created by the Board of County Commissioners and is comprised of members from both the public and private sectors.
James S. Barr will serve as the new chairman. Barr, who will serve a one-year term, has served in executive management at numerous private sector firms in addition to his outstanding community service endeavors. He most recently served as the Criminal Justice Commission’s vice chairman.
Barr’s impressive past professional positions have been as the President of Palm Beach Transportation, Vice President Commercial Lending of Harris Bank, Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer of The Fremont Company, Vice President and Managing Executive of Northern Trust Bank of Florida and President of Boca Bank. As a previous Treasurer of the Criminal Justice Commission, Mr. Barr served as the Chairman of the Drug Abuse Trust Fund Committee.
Other 2008 offices elected with Mr. Barr are Barbara Cheives as Vice-Chairman, Richard Staudinger as Treasurer and Douglas Duncan as Secretary.
The four components of the Criminal Justice Commission include Crime Prevention, Law Enforcement, Courts and Corrections.
