BCIN (Business Continuity Information Network) Demonstration Planned at Palm Beach County Emergency Operations Center

A demonstration of the BCIN system will be held on May 12 exclusively for area media. The BCIN system is a private sector communication system that can ensure important information can be shared real time among businesses and between businesses and the emergency management community before, during and after disasters. As a web-based system, BCIN can be accessed locally or anywhere in the world. The Palm Beach County demonstration will coincide with a demonstration in Miami-Dade County and the Governor’s Office.

Florida International University, the originator and architect of BCIN is providing the technical genius behind the system. FIU has partnered with business and government in Palm Beach County and Miami-Dade counties to ensure the system meets the needs of businesses and communities before and after a disaster.

Key players in the project thus far have included IBM, Office Depot, Wal-Mart, FloridaFirst (a consortium of financial institutions), Palm Beach County Division of Emergency Management, Palm Beach County’s Private-Public Partnership, Miami-Dade’s Office of Emergency Management, and their private sector partners.
