Palm Beach County officials have been notified by the Florida Division of Emergency Management of a Presidential Disaster Declaration on August 26, through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), as a result of the tornadoes and severe weather caused by Tropical Storm Fay.
This declaration will provide public assistance to the affected areas of the county. The disaster declaration number is FEMA-DR-1785-FL. Public assistance funds will provide 75 percent of approved costs to county and municipal governments and certain nonprofit agencies for debris removal, emergency services related to the disaster, and repairing or replacing disaster-damaged facilities such as roads, buildings, and utilities.
Teams of state, local, and FEMA officials are conducting damage assessments throughout the county. Information on the damage received throughout the county continues to come in to the Division of Emergency Management.
