Veterans Group Honors Commissioner Kanjian
November 12, 2008 On Saturday evening, Nov. 8th, Commissioner Bob Kanjian received the “Take Flight” award for his service and support rendered to the Stand Down House over the past year during his term of office. The award was presented at a formal black-tie dinner held at the County’s Convention Center with hundreds of attendees present, including the Commissioner’s parents, Bob and Carol, and office staff. It was the second annual “Take Flight” awards banquet. The term "Stand Down" has a deep and special significance for all veterans as it refers to a combat unit being relieved of duty from the front line because that unit has served courageously and honorably in battle and it now deserves time for rest and recuperation. The term "Stand Down" is symbolic of the support the Stand Down House provides to homeless veterans to include shelter, counseling and health care.
