How Does On-Line Bidding Work?
Our quiet auction bidding all takes place on sale dates from inside the Thrift Store. It's easy to do and there's never a registration fee or buyer premium charged. Sit down at any one of the computer stations reserved for bidding. Log on using your personal customer number, select the lot numbers of the items you wish to bid on, and enter your bid amount for each lot. Once you confirm that the bid information is correct, click the Enter button and you're finished. It's safe. It's secure. No one knows what was bid until the auction is closed and the computer produces the tally sheet. Winning bids are announced in lot number order immediately after the auction closes. Our on-line quiet auction is a "one shot" bid. Study each lot carefully and bid as much as you think an item is worth; you get only one chance per lot. All bid lots are available for inspection on sale days, unless otherwise indicated, beginning at 8 o'clock in the morning. Bidding closes promptly at 11:00. Payment for winning bids is due immediately after the sale. The Store accepts cash, certified/cashier's checks, traveler's checks, money orders, Visa and MasterCard. Sorry, we are not able to accept either personal or business checks, and the Thrift Store does not offer financing of any sort. Please arrange necessary financing before bidding. Please Note: Winning bids may not be retracted. Bid carefully and only on lots which you can afford to buy. Most of our bid lots have no "reserve" prices. A reserve is a minimum price set by the owner before a bid can be awarded. Reserve prices are not normally disclosed to bidders. Instead, at the County Thrift Store, we use a "Suggested Minimum Bid" price which is clearly marked for each bid lot. These suggested prices reflect the local marketplace, taking into account the age, condition and sales history of an item. You should be guided by the Suggested Minimum Bid price because it represents an average market price, and so is probably close to what the item will sell for. However, the computerized bidding program will not reject bids which are somewhat lower than that amount. As always when bidding, you should bid only what the item is worth to you and what you can afford to pay for it. Although there are generally no reserve prices on our bid lots, The Store reserves the right to withhold award of any lot for any reason. This happens only rarely. On-line bidding is easy and it's fun. But before you can participate, you must be a registered customer of the County Thrift Store.
