NATURE OF WORK:
Palm Beach County's public transportation system is seeking a College Intern in its Purchasing Section. Internship will begin in January 2015 for approximately a one-year duration. This is administrative work which provides the opportunity for professional training for purchasing related functions for Palm Beach County’s public transportation system. Assists the Procurement section with the identifying, tracking, and processing of warranty claims. Creates a warranty tracking database and warranty worksheets to recognize warranties, ensure warranty compliance and that warranty credits are realized for parts, equipment, and vehicles. Ensures warranty items are thoroughly inspected and entered into the system. Performs other administrative duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent certification (GED). Currently enrolled in an accredited four year college or university with major course work in a field appropriate to area of assignment. Proficient verbal and written communication skills; and ability to create databases and spreadsheets in Microsoft Access and Excel.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of modern office practices/procedures, business English, spelling, and arithmetic
Some knowledge of the principles and practices of procurement/purchasing or finance
Some knowledge of the principles of administration
Ability to operate a personal computer and modern office systems and equipment
Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to learn assigned tasks readily
Ability to read maps and lift packages up to 40 lbs. without assistance
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to prepare concise and accurate written reports
Ability to engage in field work for extended periods
Ability to prepare and maintain current and accurate written reports and files
Ability to conduct research and make recommendations
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation

The internship provides the opportunity for professional training in the promotion, marketing and administration of the transit system. Work involves active participation in multiple marketing campaigns to maximize departmental program efforts which includes various special projects/events, marketing, data management, and assisting with the development of outreach tools to educate the public on the programs that Palm Tran offers. Work may include assisting with the design of brochures, posters, logos, advertisements and signs in line with Palm Tran's mission. Writing, editing, and graphic design knowledge preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent certification (GED). Currently enrolled in an accredited four year college or university with major course work in a field appropriate to area of assignment. Proficient verbal and written communication skills; and basic computer knowledge.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS:
Provides program support by conducting research, surveys and other administrative functions. Assists in preparing forms and project reports associated with program activities. Prepares and delivers promotional and educational materials as requested. Acts as photographer at events and maintains visual/electronic files of program activity Provides information and assistance to the general public and other governmental agencies. Prepares documents, spreadsheets, and assists with graphic design. Performs related work as required
