Agricultural Classification

We are pleased to provide you with this ApplicationAdobe PDF Document for Agricultural Classification.

To qualify for Agricultural Classification, please submit the applicationAdobe PDF Document between January 1 and March 1. A late application may be filed if the applicant demonstrates extenuating circumstances that precluded a timely filed application. For more information, call us at (561) 355-2646 or contact myfarm@pbcgov.org.

You will be notified of the status of your application for the Agricultural Classification by mail, on or before July 1.

If your AG Classification application is approved, you will receive an automatic renewal card at the beginning of each year. Once we have granted the agricultural classification on a property, it is not necessary to reapply each year. Please read this card carefully, if there are any changes, sign, date, and return it to our office prior to March 1st. Please note that our office MUST be notified of ANY change in the agricultural use or status of the property. If there are no changes, please keep the card for your records.

If your AG Classification application is denied and you disagree, please call our office. We will be happy to explain how we reached our decision and review any new information. If you’re not satisfied, you have the right to an informal conference and you have 30 days to file a petition with the Value Adjustment Board.

The Agricultural Classification is granted to properties that qualify as a bona fide commercial agricultural use of the land. Agricultural land has value because of its productivity and its ability to generate income. On your tax bill, the Taxable Value of land classified as agricultural is based on the number of acres multiplied by an agricultural use value, which overrides the market value. The value is determined for each agricultural use type based on its ability to generate income. The total taxable value is derived by adding the value of the improvements to the agricultural land value. The agricultural classification is not an exemption. On your tax bill, there will not be any entry under exemptions for the agricultural classification. The reduction in taxes attributable to the Agricultural Classification is reflected in the assessed and taxable value of the land.
