LEARN to SWIM at NORTH COUNTY POOL!

Palm Beach County is proud to offer the American Red Cross LEARN-TO-SWIM program, the most comprehensive and effective program available. The progressive skill levels are designed to help swimmers of all ages and abilities develop and refine their skills. Each group lesson has a minimum and maximum enrollment and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Children are grouped into five skill levels. The cost is $45 per session and may be paid for by cash, check or money order payable to Board of County Commissioners. All classes are taught by American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors.
Swim Lessons

PARENT AND TOT (6 months - 24 months)
The objective of the Parent and Tot class is to help young children become more comfortable in and around the water so they are ready to learn to swim. This program is not designed to teach children to become good swimmers or even to survive in the water on their own. The program gives parents information and techniques to help orient their children to the water, and supervise water activities in a safe manner.

LEVEL I - Water Exploration (3 + years)
The objective of Level I is to help students feel comfortable in the water and enjoy the water safely. In Level I, elementary aquatic skills will be taught, which participants will build on as they progress through the LEARN-TO-SWIM program. At this level participants also start developing good attitudes and safe practices around the water. Some participants will have some experience with the water and may begin the program at a higher level. Prerequisites: none.

LEVEL II - Primary Skills (3 + years)
The objective of Level II is to give students success with fundamental skills. Students learn to float without support and to recover to a vertical position. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills and adds to the self-help and basic rescue skills begun in Level I. Prerequisites: Level I Certificate or must be able to demonstrate the completion requirements.

LEVEL III - Stroke Readiness
The objective of Level III is to build on the skills in Level II by providing additional guided practice. Participants will be taught to coordinate the front and back crawl. Participants will be introduced to the elementary backstroke and the fundamentals of treading water. Participants should also learn rules for safe diving and beginning to learn to dive from the side of the pool. Prerequisites: Level II certificate or must be able to demonstrate the completion requirements.

LEVEL IV; Stroke Development
The objective of Level IV is to coordination and refinement of key strokes. Participants will be introduced to the butterfly stroke, open turns, feet first surface dive, and springboard diving. Participants learn to perform the front crawl and back crawl for increased distances and to perform the breast stroke and side stroke. Prerequisites: Level III / IV completion certificate or must be able to demonstrate the completion requirements.

PRE-COMPETITIVE
The objective of Pre-Competitive is to coordination and refinement of key strokes and to be ready to join the USS Swim Team. Participants will be introduced to the butterfly stroke, open turns, and racing dives. Participants learn to perform the front crawl and back crawl for increased distances and to perform the breast stroke and Butterfly. Prerequisites: Level IV completion certificate or must be able to demonstrate the completion requirements.
