Interested in working with people who have disabilities? The Therapeutic Recreation Services Section has a variety of volunteer opportunities for those eager to get involved. Qualifications for all positions include a positive attitude, friendly personality, eager to get involved/interact with participants/customers, and basic knowledge of the position you are volunteering for. Minimum age of 17 years.
Positions available include:
ADAPTED SPORTS ASSISTANT
Assist athletes with physical disabilities during sports practices: retrieve or set up wheelchair sports equipment, put air in tires and replace inner-tubes for sports chairs, make minor adjustments or repairs to equipment as instructed by athletes, assist athletes as needed with transfers between sport chairs and more.
AQUATIC ASSISTANT (seasonal)
Assist aquatic staff with a variety of duties at the Therapeutic Recreation pool: welcome the public, answer questions from patrons, answer phones, move program equipment and pool chairs, assist with light cleaning and more.
COMMUNITY PROGRAMS ASSISTANT
Assist with one or more recreation programs offered weekly for youth and adults who have developmental disabilities. Programs include softball, kickball, hip hop dance, sailing, social programs, water fitness, and more. Programs are held at sites throughout the County and at the Therapeutic Recreation Complex.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT
Assist with routine cleaning: help sweep the gym, clean floors, wipe down countertops, vacuum, pick up trash, set up or put away chairs/tables for events and more.
Assist with a variety office duties: welcome the public, answer questions from visitors, answer phones, give tours of the facilities, file paperwork, make copies, organize office/storage areas, create flyers, data entry and more.
Assist with one-day special events such as wheelchair rugby tournaments and dances.
