Daggerwing Doings

 

Reservations are required for ALL programs (unless otherwise noted). Please call if you are not able to attend the program to allow those on the waiting list to attend. If you are more than five minutes late to a program you have made a reservation for, your spot will be given to a person on the waiting list.

Participants/guardians are required to sign a Program Participation Form upon arrival to the program. Program fees are due upon arrival to the program.

Special Events

Nature Photography Workshop with Sol Levine, Registration Required (Nov 2nd - Jan 7th)
Saturday, January 14th from 9:30am-4:30pm
$75 for Friends of Daggerwing members
$100 for non-members (which includes a 1-year membership)
The Friends of Daggerwing Nature Center is hosting a nature photography workshop with award-winning nature photographer Sol Levine.  This class is for anyone (ages 15 and older) who wants to learn how to take better pictures, regardless of what type of camera you use, or amount of experience you have taking pictures.  Registration is open from Nov 2nd - Jan 7th and is taken on a first-come, first-served basis (maximum 15 people).  Click here for more information and a registration form.Adobe PDF Document


CHILDREN’S NATURE SERIES

Ages 3-6, $4 per child – Reservations Required

Parents, bring your little ones to experience exciting nature topics! Programs may include activities such as: stories, puppets, games, role play, nature walks, and crafts.

ECO EXPLORERS

  • Invasive Species
    Thursday, January 26, 2:30-3:30pm
    Come find out the difference between invasive and non-invasive and native and non-native. Come learn why a ball python and marine toad are invasive species!


  • ANIMAL ENCOUNTERS

    Families and all ages, $3 per person – Reservations Required

    Bring the whole family and join us as we take an up-close and personal look at some of our LIVE educational animals. Programs include live animals, artifacts and pictures all to learn about the animal’s natural history and how we can help their wild relatives!

    • Alligators & Crocodiles
      Saturday, Dec 31, 1:00-1:45pm
      Come meet our new baby alligator that hatched this September!  Find out how this species’ adaptations have helped them to survive for millions of years! 

    • Turtles
      Saturday, Feb 4, 1:00-1:45pm
      Come join us as we take an up-close look at some of our educational animals. Learn about South Florida's tortoises and turtles! Program also includes artifacts, pictures and fun facts to help us learn about turtle's and how we can help their environment!


    "HOW TO" PROGRAMS

    Ages 9 and up, $3 per person - Reservations Required

    Take part in a series where you can DO something with what you learn!

    • Basic Birding
      Saturday, January 7, 1:00-1:45pm
      Learn how to identify common birds! A tour on our boardwalk will help us to practice our new skills. Bring binoculars.

     


    NIGHT HIKES

    Families and all ages, $3 per person – Reservations Required

    What comes out at night? Join us for a walk through our wetlands and see some special adaptations of nocturnal animals. (Bring bug spray and a flashlight.)

    GATOR TALES

    Ages 2-5, $2 per child – No reservations needed

    Join us as we go on adventures through stories, both fiction and non-fiction, about animals and nature!

    ALLIGATOR FEEDINGS

    Families and all ages, FREE - No reservations needed

    Gather 'round the alligator tank in the exhibit hall and listen to a short talk about our baby gator while he is being fed. Feel free to ask questions!

    • Every Wednesday and Saturday at 3:15 pm
      Note:
      It is ILLEGAL to feed or harass wild alligators.

    BOARDWALK TOURS

    Families and all ages, FREE - No reservations needed

    Join a docent for a guided tour of our swamp habitat!
