Program Calendar

 

Reservations are required for ALL programs (unless otherwise noted). Please call if you are not able to attend the program to allow those on the waiting list to attend. If you are more than five minutes late to a program you have made a reservation for, your spot will be given to a person on the waiting list.

Participants/guardians are required to sign a Program Participation Form upon arrival to the program. Program fees are due upon arrival to the program.

DAILY ANIMAL FEEDINGS

  • Daily when the center is open 3:15-3:30 p.m.
    Families / All Ages, FREE (Reservations NOT Required)
    3:15pm is feeding time! Listen to a short talk about a specific animal and then watch while they are fed.

    • Wednesday – Alligator
    • Thursday – Snake
    • Friday – Skunk
    • Saturday - Alligator

 

  • Qi Gong – a form of Tai Chi
    Saturdays at 9:00 a.m.
    Adults, $40/month, FREE introductory class (Reservations required – call 561-419-5403)
    Instructor Jim Kelly has been practitioner of Martial Arts for 35 years and has been a Tai Chi instructor in West Boca for 12 years.  Come and experience the benefits of this ancient Chinese system of exercise and meditation.  Improve your flexibility, balance, muscle tone, energy and mental well being.   • MOTHER NATURE & ME: HURRICANE SEASON
    Tuesday, August 4, 10:30 a.m.
    Ages 2-5 (w/ guardian), $4/child (Reservations Required)
    Get ready to jump and shout with Mother Nature through stories, live animals, activities, and a craft specifically designed for toddlers and preschoolers!

  • INTRO TO ARCHERY
    Thursday, August 6, 10:00 a.m.
    Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations Required)
    Join an USA Archery and N.F.A.A. certified instructor and learn the skills needed to successfully use a bow. This exciting program teaches bow and arrow safety, and how to properly use the equipment before getting to practice on the range.

  • ANIMAL KEEPER FOR A DAY
    Thursday, August 13, 10:00 a.m.
    Ages 8-15, $10/participant (Reservations Required)
    Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an animal keeper?  Come and work behind the scenes with Animal Care Staff and Volunteers.  From cleaning cages and preparing diets to going on a “turtle walk”, learn what it really means to care for these special animal ambassadors. (approx. 11/2 hours) *kids may get messy!

  • MOTHER NATURE & ME: ANIMAL BABIES
    Tuesday, August 18, 10:30 a.m.
    Ages 2-5 (w/ guardian), $4/child (Reservations Required)
    Get ready to jump and shout with Mother Nature through stories, live animals, activities, and a craft specifically designed for toddlers and preschoolers!

  • FISHING
    Thursday, August 20, 10:00 a.m.
    Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations Required)
    Come fish with us!  Learn the basics for freshwater fishing and practice your new skills. Class includes: fishing pole basics, casting tips, freshwater fish identification, and fish habits.  All fishing supplies are provided.  Please bring sun protection, a water bottle, and wear closed-toed shoes (or water shoes) that can get wet/muddy.

  • NIGHT HIKE
    Friday, August 28, 7:30 p.m.
    All Ages, $5/participant (Reservations Required)
    Always wondered what Daggerwing’s boardwalk would be like after dark? Here is your chance to find out!  Join our Naturalist-guided boardwalk tour at night to look for the shining eyes of nocturnal wildlife and listen for the calls of both predators and prey that use the darkness to their advantage.  This program offers a new perspective on the wetlands surrounding Daggerwing Nature Center.  Space is limited, please RSVP. *Be sure to bring bug spray and a flashlight

  • SENSATIONAL SNAKES- A NATURALIST PROGRAM
    Saturday, September 12, 1:00 p.m.
    All ages, $3/participant (Reservations Required)
    Come and see a presentation about Florida’s fabulous native snakes.  Join our Naturalist as he teaches you how to identify the most common harmless and venomous snakes found in our area.  You will also get to see some of our Nature Center residents in person.
  • MOTHER NATURE & ME: BUTTERFLIES AND OTHER INSECTS

    Ages 2-5 (w/ guardian), $4/child (Reservations Required)
    Get ready to jump and shout with Mother Nature through stories, live animals, activities, and a craft specifically designed for toddlers and preschoolers!

  • INTRO TO CANOEING
    Wednesday, September 23, 10:00 a.m.
    Ages 8+, $10/child (Reservations Required)
    Join our NEW Outdoor Adventure program and learn the basics of canoeing.  Join our ACA certified instructor who will teach you the parts and terms associated with canoeing as well as the basic skills needed to successfully navigate a canoe.

    All Ages, $3/participant (Reservations Required)
    Do you like wild birds?  Come and learn about the exciting hobby of bird watching. Join our Naturalist for a family friendly program that will teach you how to use binoculars and field guides and then we will put those skills to use on our boardwalk. *feel free to bring your own binoculars
