Call or visit the Nature Center to make reservations. For every program or tour, all participants are required to sign a "Program Participation Form."

2014 WINTER JUNIOR NATURALIST SERIES

Ages 9-14, $10/each class, $50/all six classes

The Junior Naturalist Series is designed for youth who are interested in nature and outdoor activities. The goal of the program is to actively put youth in touch with nature and teach them about the Green Cay Wetlands and South Florida wildlife.  This is a great way to learn about nature and have fun meeting new people at the Green Cay Nature Center. You can attend all 6 sessions or just one session of your choosing. Each session will include an informative presentation and hands on activities in the lab and outside on the boardwalk and natural area. Snacks will be provided but please pack a lunch if staying for both morning and afternoon sessions. Please call for more detailed information. (561-966-7000)

  • Junior Ornithologist
  • December 29, 8:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Learn to identify birds, learn phonetic bid calls, learn about bill design.

  • Junior Herpetologist
  • December 29, 12-3 p.m.
  • Learn about reptiles and amphibians, learn how to handle reptiles, check tree frog research poles.

  • Junior Botanist
  • December 30, 8:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Learn about local plants, learn about seeds, go on the boardwalk to study plants.

  • Junior Survivalist
  • December 30, 12-3 p.m.
  • Learn how to navigate, learn how to evaluate your habitat, learn uses for plants.

  • Junior Wetland Ecologist
  • December 31, 8:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Learn about water pollution, learn about wetland plants and animals, learn about the importance of wetlands.

  • Junior Entomologist
  • December 31, 12-3 p.m.
  • Learn about insects, collect insects, ID and mount your insects.

 

NOVEMBER

  • SPECIAL EVENT: MIGRATION CELEBRATION
    Hosted by the Friends of Green Cay Nature Center
    Saturday, November 15, 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
    All ages, FREE
    (Reservations NOT required)
    This annual major event is an all day FREE celebration featuring guided tours, guest speakers on related topics, and activities for children and adults. Come join the fun celebrating the return of migratory birds. For the full schedule of events, click here.

  • THE NIGHT STALKERS
    Thursday, November 20, 6:30 p.m.
    All Ages - $5/person (Reservations Required)
    Join a naturalist on a night-time boardwalk tour looking at nature from the point of view of its nocturnal residents.

  • STORY & CRAFT TIME
    Saturday, November 29, 10:00 a.m.

    Suggested Ages: 4 to 10 yrs - $2/child (Reservations Required)
    Kids will discover nature through crafts and stories about animals and other nature-related themes!

 

DECEMBER

  • WHAT MAKES A GOOD NATURE PHOTO
    Saturday, December 13, 10:00 a.m.
    All ages, FREE (Reservations Suggested)
    Learn what it takes to take a winning photograph for entry in our annual photo contest with award winning photographer John Lipinot.

  • THE NIGHT STALKERS
    Thursday, December 18, 6:30 p.m.
    All Ages - $5/person (Reservations Required)
    Join a naturalist on a night-time boardwalk tour looking at nature from the point of view of its nocturnal residents.

  • STORY & CRAFT TIME
    Saturday, December 27, 10:00 a.m.

    Suggested Ages: 4 to 10 yrs - $2/child (Reservations Required)

FREE guided 1/2 mile boardwalk tours

Every Saturday at 9:00 a.m. & 11:00 a.m. and every Wednesday at 9:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m.

No reservations required, sign in at the front desk.
