An American epidemic is
growing in Palm Beach County. Florida is ranked 4th in the nation
and the Palm Beaches are ranked 6th in the state for what may be
the world’s fastest growing crime – Identity Theft. |
Residents who want to fight
back, or more importantly want to
know how to prevent being a victim, are invited to view a special Identity Theft
Workshop scheduled to air each Monday in May at 6 p.m. on
Palm Beach County's Channel 20. The workshop was held on April 24, 2002 in the Commission Chambers on the 6th Floor of the Palm
Beach County Governmental Center, 301 N. Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach.

Chairman Warren H. Newell speaks about the importance of doing all you can
do to prevent identity theft.
Michael Rachel who is a statewide prosecutor for the Florida
Attorney General’s Office presents ways to protect your identity. Rachel works with the
Statewide Grand Jury dealing with identity theft.
The workshop was sponsored by the Palm Beach County Consumer
Affairs Division and the Area Agency on Aging. The program was broadcast
live on Channel 20.
Rachel described how Identity Theft has become a serious
state and national problem. He gave practical information on preventing I.D.
Theft and what can be done if you are a victim.
