Commissioner Roberts accepts a signed basketball from Glenn Brown, president of the Westgate Community Center Citizens Advisory Committee, in appreciation of all her efforts to make the new facility a reality.

"We've been working very hard to improve the roads and drainage in the Westgate/Belvedere Homes area, and the recreation needs must not be overlooked either," said Commissioner Roberts. "It's so important for our young people to have access to quality recreational and educational programs, especially with extra time on their hands during the summer months. This center will be a great symbol of community pride and a place for young and old alike to feel welcome for many years to come."


Helping Commissioner Roberts cut the ribbon were representatives from Parks & Recreation and Facilities Development & Operations, Westgate residents, and state and local elected officials.

The new $2 million, 12,606-square-foot facility was paid for by County bond funds and District 2 recreation assistance funds. Located on Oswego Avenue, it was completed on time and on budget. The center features an 8,320-square-foot multipurpose gymnasium, an activity room, offices and restrooms. There is also a new, lighted outdoor basketball court to complement the existing baseball and multipurpose fields, two playgrounds and a group picnic shelter at the seven-acre park.
