Plans Announced for 2002 Labor Day
Classic Golf Tournament
Benefitting the Okeeheelee Junior Golf Foundation
The Okeeheelee Junior Golf Foundation (OJGF) and the Palm Beach County Parks
and Recreation Department announced plans for the 2nd Annual Labor Day
Classic Golf Tournament to be held on August 31, September 1, and September
2. The 54-hole stroke play fund-raising tournament for men and women will be
hosted by Okeeheelee Public Golf Course with participants separated into two
divisions — a golf professional and an amateur division. PGA professional
David Ladd will defend his title as golf professionals compete for a $20,000
cash purse, based on a full field of participants. Amateurs with a verified
handicap of 18.0 or less will play in three flights by handicap. Entry fees
are $200 for golf professionals and $150 for amateurs (includes 54 hole
cart/green fees/pro-am pairings barbeque/prizes).
Proceeds from the Labor Day Classic will benefit the foundation and will be
put toward golf classes and equipment, as well as toward college
scholarships for young girls and boys needing financial assistance. Several
OJGF graduates have received golf scholarships to respected universities.
The OJGF curriculum includes a five tier instructional program, leagues,
camps and tournaments.
Okeeheelee Junior Golf Foundation was established in 1996 to provide golf
opportunities for children of all backgrounds. In seven years of operation,
their junior golf participation level exceeds 25,000.
