SECTION 19. EVICTIONS, JAIL TERMS, COMMUNITY SERVICE ADJUDICATIONS, AND OTHER INVOLUNTARY OCCURRENCES; EFFECT ON ANIMALS.

In cases of evictions, jail terms over five (5) calendar days, death, adjudications of hardship or the like from the Florida Department of Children and Families or other such community service agencies, and/or other involuntary occurrences whereby the owner of the property subject to eviction proceedings, the person to be jailed or the subject of adjudication, owns any animal and such animal is referred to the Division by the sheriff's office or other official agency. The Division shall have the authority to place for adoption such animals or dispose of such animals in a humane manner, when the following conditions are met:

1. Prior to the Division=s taking any action as described herein, written notice of the Division's intent will be provided to the owner of the animal.

2. The owner of the animal shall have fifteen (15) calendar days from the date of the Division's notice to make proper arrangements for the care of the animal, be it by personal claim or otherwise. If the Division does not receive notification of the owner's intent within the aforementioned time period, the Division shall have the authority to carry out the actions as described herein.
