Volunteer Opportunities

 

The next scheduled Volunteer Orientation is Sunday, February 21, 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. No appointment necessary. Call Tammy Roberts for information at (561) 233-1281.

There are four volunteer programs available, 1) adults ages 17 and older, 2) school credit for students ages 12-19, 3) foster care for ages 15 and older, and 4) Citizens Animal Patrol for adults. The court appointed Community Service Program is also available for adults ages 18 and older. See information below. A special program is available to students ages 12-17 required to provide court appointed community service hours.

Animal Care and Control operates seven days a week. The pet adoption program and business hours at the shelter are Monday through Friday 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Volunteers working with customers should schedule their volunteer hours during business hours. Other positions working in the kennel with dogs and clinic areas have a more flexible work schedule throughout the day. Some volunteer positions require work-experience in handling animals.

Adult Volunteer Program: Complete a volunteer application and mail to PBCACC, Volunteer Program, 7100 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach, FL 33411 or fax to attention 'Tammy Roberts' at (561) 233-1234.

Student Volunteer Program for School Credit: Complete a student application and call (561) 233-1281 for more information. This program is for students ages 12-19 to earn school credit hours by collecting the pet food and supplies needed to support the 'Foster Care' program. For those students required to provide Court Appointed Community Service hours, the program is restricted to ages 12-16 only.

Adult Court Appointed Community Service
Adults with 50 or more court appointed community service hours must be approved by shelter officials. Application packets must be picked up at the shelter location, 7100 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach. Once completed please call Tammy, Volunteer Coordinator, at (561) 233-1281 for an appointment.

Volunteer Positions Available:

  • Lost and Found (assisting pet owners with lost and found pets

  • Community Projects & Special Events (volunteer to work displays and events)

  • Pawpurrazzi Volunteer (photographer)

  • Customer Service Greeters (welcome the public and assist with adoptions)

  • Cat Socializing (exercising and socializing cats in the adoption program)

  • Placement Partner Program
    • If your organization rescues dogs and cats and would like to work with Animal Care and Control, call (561) 233-1219 for a Placement Partner application.

  • Pet Exercise Program (bathing, walking, and socializing the dogs)

  • Spay Shuttle Customer Registration (registration table each morning)

  • Educational Programs and Tours (presenting educational programs at the elementary, middle, and high schools)

  • Kennel Care Assistant (caring and feeding the animals)

  • South Florida Fair Animal Care and Control Exhibit (January/February)
