The Palm Beach County Consumer Affairs Division is issuing a “Consumer Advisory” concerning a new dispute resolution policy being implemented by Comcast Cable. Customers of Comcast are being notified through monthly billing invoices that unless they “opt out,” the only method for resolving disputes with the company will be through an arbitration process. Consumer Affairs advises Comcast customers to carefully consider the dispute resolution information being provided by Comcast. Arbitration is often an effective method for resolving disputes, but also may limit certain rights available through other legal remedies. Comcast customers only have 30 days from the date they received the new arbitration policy to opt out of the plan. Customers wishing to opt out of the arbitration policy are required to send a letter of request to Comcast or go to Comcast’s “opt out” website.
