About Us

The Consumer Affairs Division is a Palm Beach County government agency under the Public Safety Department. The staff consists of clercial support staff, investigators, and compliance officers who are charged with administering the Palm Beach County Consumer Affairs, Moving, Towing and Vehicle for Hire Ordinances. This is done through investigation and informal mediation in areas of credit billing, debt collections, landlord/tenant matters, auto purchases, retail shopping, health studio contracts, home improvements, and various other consumer transactions.

The Division of Consumer Affairs also regulates the taxi cab, limousine, local moving and towing companies. Business licenses for these types of businesses are renewed each year. The Compliance officers conduct inspections during the renewal period and use various tools to monitor compliance to the provisions of each these ordinances.

The Consumer Affairs Division staff is also active during a declared state of emergency. When a state of emergency is declared in Palm Beach County, the staff provides support for various operations in the Public Safety Department. The Consumer Affairs staff also completes commodity surveys in June to obtain baseline prices for specific supplies and equipment that would be used during a hurricane event.

The Division of Consumer Affairs will soon start administering the water taxi ordinance and monitoring gas station signage for compliance with the ordinance passed by the Board of County Commissioners in 2014.
