Palm Beach County Division of Emergency Management is the lead agency in the county for coordinating volunteers. Volunteers are instrumental in providing disaster services to our citizens, and are an essential component of our operation. Interested persons are needed to assist in numerous programs. Some of the jobs we have available are:

• Shelter Staffing - this is critical to the citizens of our community, with specialized training provided by the American Red Cross. Your family is welcome to join you at your assigned shelter.
• Emergency Information Center - the Emergency Information Center (EIC) staff receives information about an event in progress directly from the source, in advance of the general public. This assignment involves relaying accurate information to callers, and dispelling fears and rumors.
• Emergency Operations Center Runner - Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Runners keep the information flowing between citizens, public safety officials, and responding agencies. A runner works directly in the Operations, or "War" Room at the EOC.

Volunteers are utilized in diverse capacities throughout the division and support and strengthen our community. These are just a few of the crucial areas of Emergency Management where volunteer assistance would enhance the ability of county officials to protect lives and property. You may especially wish to consider volunteering during an emergency event if you:

• live in an evacuation zone
• live in a mobile home
• live in a flood prone area

You then have a safe place to evacuate to, while providing essential services to the community. Emergency Management will provide training, and no previous experience is necessary. We find that you often have special interests, or useful skills that can be easily applied to the jobs we need help with.
